I was browsing your reply to mortaine's entry about journal styles and I came across this gem of a post. I had to reply about American Beauty.
I must say that it's an excellent movie that takes an entirely different approach to showing life than most movies I have ever seen. Kind of like a more twisted (but more real) outlook on some of the unsaid things in life. From the unhappy couple, to the troubled teen, to the use of drugs, etc. Not something you would usually see in a movie - especially the cookie cutter movies of today.
I must admit, the ending did bring tears to my eye (Remember, I'm a guy, I'm not supposed to cry). My wife didn't like the movie, but I think that's because she's not big on catching the inner meanings (or hidden meanings, or whatever). It is one of my most favorite movies and certainly stands out (as far as genre or style) from my other favorite movies.
Another neat item about this movie is the box (I have the DVD, so the inside cover). The story that unfolds about the guy reading the script (don't have the DVD handy), then rereading it and reading a different story each time shows just how excellent this movie is.
Alright, enough rambling.
Hope you don't mind a friend of a friend posting one little reply in your journal.
