There is nothing that I wouldn't give to be able to go back to backcountry Philmont, just to see those night skies again.

The way to many men's hearts may be through any number of passages, but for me, if you want to hit me where it counts, hit me with the night sky. Stars, meteor showers, Space Station flyby, Shuttle launch... if it's space related, I'm all about it.

For the most part, I fear that even in the case I could finagle going back, I probably wouldn't be able to do the physical work needed to go again. Granted, I've gained a lot of physical strength as part of being a parent, but I'm still not sure I'd be able to lug a 50 pound pack up and down hills.

When I was driving back from Seattle with Janine and Mark, we stopped on the side of the highway at 3amish just to look at stars. I think that was Janine's first view of the Milky Way, although memory could be failing: I remember it seeming completely incredible that there were all these stars.
