So, I'm editing a post in nano, because neil was complaining how LogJam sounds like a program that would end up putting lots of logs on your computer. I had to explain to him that 1. It doesn't, and 2. there are other clients. I got interested in how a command line client would work. So, I downloaded Charm and am posting with it.

I've changed my default icon to be not this one, but it seemed appropriate on this post.

My cell phone can now control my MP3 player from up to approximately 10 meters away.

Life has been interesting, but nothing that I can or should discuss in public posts.

Movie night tonight, 355 Allen, if you're interested in hanging out. 8pm, Fight Club, subsequently Clockwork Orange, and Pulp Fiction.

I bet this will post with lots of line breaks that I really don't want, and I'll have to edit it, because that's how nano edits files. I really need to learn VIM.

Edit: It did. Fixed now. I also apparently don't have metadata support in my replypages, which is dumb.

If nano puts in newlines automatically, there has to be a way to turn it off.

VIM sucks, use FTE or JOE.

Nano wraps by default, so I get new lines at 80 characters. It's good for things like mutt, where I'm replying to email, or assignments in monospaced fonts, but not so good in typing up long things like that.

I edit all comment replies in VIM.

I can turn it off - it's -w, and I just did. But yeah, either way I do it, it will end up good sometimes and bad sometimes.

My last memories from nano tell me it's simple ^W to turn wrapping on and off, btw.  I think I have used it to edit /etc/apt/sources.list, until I managed to download my old pal JOE :P

^W is actually "Where", -w is the wrapping option.

I don't use debian, I use gentoo ;)

I'll look into joe, maybe, but I really like VIM - it's just a bit too complex because I've never bothered to rtfm.

That sounds familiar.

I like vim because I started work learning vi and could transfer those skills over to vim. I've learned some of vim's additional features but by no means all -- it seems to be able to do nearly anything, as long as you remember the right command :p

Its manual is too long.

For the record, I love vim ;-}

But I've been playing around with XEdit because it's good for when I get too lazy to do anything else.

vim rocks

Learn how vimrc works and get it working best for you and you'll never turn back. None of that having a whole operating system in a text editor like emacs and it still does crazy stuff when you learn the obscure keystrokes.

You need to use whatever LiveJournal clout you have to push for a "Posting from" field along the same lines as mood and current music.
