One of my friends is participating in Relay For Life. Earlier this evening she had a relatively low amount of her goal fulfilled. Now, thanks to the generosity of LiveJournal users, she has picked up almost $1000 dollars in donations. However, given that this is a cancer benefit organization, I'd like to see even more donated.

I have had several friends who have lost parents or other loved ones due to cancer. I'm lucky that it doesn't run in my family - we get heart disease instead - but that doesn't mean that I'll be lucky forever, and supporting cancer research is certainly a worthy cause. There are a million stories out there from a million different people who have had family survive - and just as many from people who didn't.

I want to try to help to cut that second group down. I'd rather hear more survival stories. I want more people to get past this - I want us to figure out what the hell cancer is, why it exists, and why it is the way it is - and after we know that, how to stop it.

If you have the same kind of feelings, I'd urge you to donate. Pick one of the people from Ashley's Team Page who doesn't have any yet. Some of these are young kids working as hard as they can to get a few dollars together.

The minimum donation is $10. $10 is three venti Carmel Apple Ciders, my favorite drinks from Starbucks. $10 is a lunch out. $10 is such a small number, but with that $10 you'll be making someone's day that has worked hard to earn donations for the Relay. And at the same time, you may be helping to save someone's life.

To me, that's worth $10. If you feel the same, I urge you to go donate. Doing so helped me feel like I did something worthwhile, and I think that it can help other people feel the same way.

:) Love you, Chris.

If anyone wants to make sure their donation goes to one of the munchkins, Tucker, Abby, Laura, Katherine, and Melissa are each walking in honor of their grandfather, my dad, a 16-year survivor. They'd love the donation, if you feel so compelled.

Thanks to anyone who gives! And to you, of course, for posting. :D
